'The Origin of Double-Gauss type lens'.
This lens is the ancestor of Modern Fast Normal Lens, 'Opic of Taylor,Taylor
& Hobson'.
The method of breaking symmetry of Double Gauss type is Columbus's Egg in some way.
However it was the epock making design to connect to the contemporary Fast Normal Lens design directly

'Opic' is designed by H.W.Lee of Taylor,Taylor & Hobson in 1920 as
the development of 'Planar' which was designed by Dr.Paul Rudolph in 1895-6
with 4 groups 6 lenses composition. The main characteristic of 'Opic' is
its asymmetry.
Rudolph's idea mainly is to set off aberration between symmetrical front element and rear element, however unnegligible sagittal coma aberration remained in peripheral area. Lee broke its symmetry with adapting crown glass with high refracting index which leads balanced correction of aberration.
The design of 'Opic' became 'the Model' of future Fast Standard Lens which
is still valid in contemporary lens component.
The sales of Opic was unsuccessful because of flare by 8 refletion surface
and other reasons. The concept was inherited to later Xenon, Speed Panchro,
Biotar and others.
This particular one makes a little flare by age and non coating, the description
itself is very sharp and modern.
